Project Outcome
The project aims were met when 4kms of pipeline where installed from the borehole reserve tanks to a water station at the Kakoi Primary School, bringing a supply of running water to the school students.
This improved water access means removes the need for women and children to walk long distances to collect water, leaving them with more time to dedicate to other activities such as attending school and caring for young children, tending to animals and gardens.
The improved sanitation of the water lifts the hygiene standards for the students, which in turn impacts on their attendance at school.
The community were heavily involved in this project, digging trenches and laying pipeline. The project was very well received by the students, teachers and parents of the Kakoi Secondary School.
Project Impact
“The project was well programmed, designed and timely, longed for by Kakoi Primary school pupils and the villagers. Project Objective:
Due to a continuing drought, the Masai village of Kakoi has a serious shortage of clean water. This project will lay 3 kilometers of water pipeline to the school bringing clean water to a communal tap (located at the school).
Project Background:
Located near the Tarangire National Park, Kakoi is home to approximately 2500 people scattered on small plots of land. The community primary school has approximately 473 students attending, with 7 teachers. The school has rainwater tanks, which are dry due to drought.
World Expeditions’ Community Project Travel program:
The World Expeditions Foundation and other generous donors have already facilitated building renovations at this school from which the students and staff greatly benefit. This water project will be another step towards our commitment to improve the education environment for the students of Kakoi.
The completion of this project will have many positive benefits including:
- Bringing fresh disease-free water to the students at the school
- Improvement of student’s general health, which also has a positive impact on school attendance and learning
- Students will no longer have to take the long and sometime dangerous walk to the watering hole to collect water, (meaning they can also arrive at school on time).
