Can I visit this project?
World Expeditions operates treks that visit many of the villages that benefited from this project. Find out more.
Project Objective
To supply 20 solar lamps to isolated houses the following villages in the Peruvian Andes:
- Qesqa
- Ancascocha
- Tastayoq
Project Background
The majority of houses in these villages will receive basic electricity but the more isolated houses (up to 2kms away from the main village) do not receive any electricity. These solar lamps will mean that these households can partake in most of the usual household activities (such as cooking and homework) once the sun has set.
Local Partners
World Expeditions is working with local partner the Tambo Foundation to locate the houses in need and to source the correct lamps for the situation.
Solar Lamps
The proposed solar lamps have been identified as suitable for local conditions, cost around $50USD in Peru and bring a wide range of benefits such as:
- 10 x brighter than kerosene lamps
- 30 hours of light on 1 day’s charge
- 5 year battery life
- 100 lumen warm temperature light
- Connectors for charging mobile phones or radios (can charge day or night)
